OPEN HOUSE JUNE 2014

This year’s third and final Open House made space for the work of 26 artists to experiment with ideas explored in their studio, re-install earlier produced art and show new pieces.

Open House 2014 welcomed artists Belinda Ageda, Karen Miranda Augustine, Amina Ally, Sandra Brewster, soJin Chun, Jordan Clarke, Michele Pearson Clarke, Sue Cohen, Erika DeFreitas, Alison Duke, Stella Fakiyesi, Stephen Fakiyesi, Gomo George, Amelia Jiménez, Bushra Junaid, Jessica Karuhanga, Charmaine Lurch, Anthony Macri, Abdi Osman, Wayne Salmon, Amir Shingray, Dionne Simposon, TALWST, Camille Turner, Natalie Wood and David Zapparoli.  The exhibition presented mixed media, installation, photography, performance, video installation, sculpture and drawing. An exciting and visually stimulating experience of art engagement, the work presented throughout the main floor and basement of the house included mixed media painting and sculpture, drawing, installation, video, performance, textile and photography.  The opening welcomed a whopping 400 people and the closing was quite well attended as well.  Thank you Cameron’s Brewing Co. and Harlem Underground for sponsoring the event with refreshments.

 

OPEN HOUSE JUNE 2013

Located in a home, Open House exhibitions create a welcoming and comfortable environment where socializing comes easy, all within the context of art.

Open House 2013 welcomed artists Karen Miranda Augustine, Sandra Brewster, Chikonzero Chazunguza, Erika DeFreitas, Stephen Fakiyesi, Gomo George, Amelia Jiménez, Raenel Leppky, Charmaine Lurch, Anthony Macri, Wayne Salmon, Amir Shingray, Dionne Simposon, Shawn Skeir and Natalie Wood.  The exhibition presented mixed media, installation, photography, performance, video installation, sculpture and drawing. The opening was on a Saturday afternoon and over 200 people attended. The exhibition ran for a week and was open to people viewing it by appointment. A closing reception was held on the following Friday evening.  Cameron’s Brewing Co. and Harlem Underground sponsored the event with refreshments.  

 

OPEN HOUSE JUNE 2012

Open House 2012 welcomed 14 emerging and senior artists, of diverse cultural backgrounds, living in close proximity to each other, to exhibit their work throughout a home located in the Junction Triangle neighbourhood of Toronto.

Exhibiting artists included Michael Chambers, Stephen Fakiyesi, Gomo George, Amelia Jimeñez, Anthony Macri, Abdi Osman, Wayne Salmon, Amir Shingray, Dionne Simpson, Zanette Singh, Shawn Skeir, Tim Whiten, Natalie Wood and myself,. The exhibition presented photography, painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, and video. A map was provided that indicated the location of each artist’s work. The opening was on a Saturday afternoon and over 200 people/community members visited the exhibition, networked and socialized. The exhibition ran for a week and was open to people viewing it by appointment. A closing reception was held on the following Friday evening.  Cameron’s Brewing Co. sponsored the event with refreshments.

Open House is meant to tap into a presently growing new field called “new institutionalism” that identifies alternative forms of art curation.  Creating alternative spaces such as a home
